Midlands Premier League
Broadstreet RFC v Luctonians RFC
Saturday 9th March 2019
Oh Joy, oh joy, its beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go at Lucs at the moment. Another belter of a result from the Firsts (and the Two’s and Three’s) and, with others losing their way in Midland Premier league, we are up to second with all to play for in the final four fixtures. Got to be in with a shout now for promotion!
Couldn’t go Saturday, again! I did wonder however how Broadstreet came to get its name. Are they just a town with a very wide strip of tarmac running through the middle? [Nah, it’s Broad Street School Old Boys. Ed]
Have raked together the once again excellent feedback from Greggers’ posts and videos on the BookFace pages and added some comments from the minions like me who endured the game from afar.
In Ryan’s pre-match interview with the BBC H&W he said it would be “whoever does it best”. It appears we did.
A try from Aiden Cheshire starts the ball rolling when he touched down from a clever dink of kick by Alex Smith, very Owen Farrellesque, and a nice bounce in the zone and Aiden pounces to score. 5-0 lead. Checkout that try.
Louis Silver pops over for a second try soon after and we have a 10-pointer lead after what appears to be only 20 minutes on the clock. 892 views on the Bookface … amazing number.. They must have heard about Smithy’s boots!
Broadstreet respond and are back into the game with a converted try almost immediately after. Josh Watkins then goes over using all his upper body strength in the corner from a fine passing move following a scrum on the 22 when quick ball Louis Silver to Will Burton with Isaac Fanueli and Drew Cheshire all playing a part before Josh Watkins touched down.
Comment from Adam Knight that “Ice” Was doing all the work, looked like a good team effort on the vid. [Nah, Knighty was referring a piece work by Isaac Fanueli – Checkout that offload]
Half time and nice lead but still nervous at home. [Should’ve travelled then. Ed]
Half Time Score
Broadstreet 7 v 15 Luctonians
Second half and we are off and flying. 5 minutes gone and Johnny Morris is putting the flying Josh Watkins away in the 22 and over in the corner for his second score and our 4th and bonus point try. Asa spotted it early and got his comment in, 721 views for this try on the Bookface. Marvellous!
Broadstreet once again get in a reply and bring the score back to 20-12 with an unconverted effort soon after.
Josh again showing a clean pair of heels to the Broadstreet defence when he once cut inside from the wing to score under the posts. HAT TRICK for JW and Louis adding the extras for 15-point lead. 820 views now, we must all be getting excited.
But Broadstreet won’t roll over and score straight from the restart to bring the lead back to 8 points 27-19.
Looks like the Ref’s got a cold, he’s in his pocket looking for his hankie … NO, he’s reaching for his yellow, and he’s using it; Johnny Morris to the bin, closely followed by No10 for Street.
14 players a side then, and Louis Silver fires over a penalty to stretch out the score to an 11-point gap. Drew Cheshire then darts over late on and rounds off a great day for the Ones, winning a toughie away against what is traditionally a good Broadstreet team. 628 views, where did the other 200 go?

Broadstreet 19 v 35 Luctonians
Smiles all round then when the guys got back to the clubhouse on Saturday night about 8. Speaking with a few of them they were euphoric especially with other results going our way as well. President Charlie B was well lubricated but said how proud he was of both sides to win away and how well both had played. Isaac “Ice” Fanueli is Man of the Match.
No doubt it will be written elsewhere about the situation we now find ourselves in the league, so we now look forward to 23rd March when the Ones play host to Burton who we beat, just back in November, 24-32.
It’s All getting too much for me, I need to lie down.
