The Sun Valley Rugby Project was launched by Luctonians Sports Club the day England won the World Cup Final in 2003. It was originally a three year project, but its success in taking the game to the schools of the Marches has ensured the continued financial support of Sun Valley Europe and Bengrys Motors.
Richard Maxfield the Managing Director & Business Unit Leader of Sun Valley Europe has said of the project:
“It’s important that we nurture the talent pool for the next generation, whether that’s in business or in sport. Sport, and particularly team sport, is a great way of developing life-skills which are necessary to be successful in future careers and interests.
Sun Valley Europe, as a large employer in the county, is very keen to support the local community in development of its young people and that’s why I am especially pleased to be associated with the Luctonians Rugby Project. I have been very impressed with the professional approach and ambitious goals of the Luctonians and have seen first hand the great work they do in school and the community.
It gives me great pleasure to see first hand the difference they make in people’s lives and the way they lead in taking sport into schools and arranging committee activities.
I wish them and you all the best for the season ahead.”
This philosophy is at the core of the project. The coming season seeks to improve the numbers of children participating in Rugby and continue to facilitate the involvement of the wider community in the game.
