Luctonians RFC 36 v 7 Scunthorpe RUFC

Saturday 6th October 2018

By Geoffers

Oh what a glorious feeling to be a Luctonian when we play rugby like it was played on Saturday. An expectant crowd, with top of the table Scunthorpe, who were unbeaten, as opponents and they didn’t get a look-in.

The Black and Whites put the Greens away with some comfort, playing excellent front foot rugby and defending resolutely when required, when the Northerners got anywhere near their red zone, which wasn’t often.

Isaac (Ice) Fanueli got the score board ticking on 10 minutes when he touched down, and the every busy Sam Boxhall converting. Boxy added a penalty to take the score to 10-0 at half time, and although the score was looking close we were in total command.

The crowd were surprised by the cold wind that was blowing in from the East but didn’t need a lot of warming up as Drew Cheshire, who was impressive throughout and fully deserved Man of Match for his running and slick handling, scored a great try with Boxy again adding the extras.

Ice then added his second, following a red card for Syddall for Scunny who was using his head for all the wrong reasons.

Helarius (TC) Kisting was on for Boxy and converted and he set up with Drew and Stu Kirby, Josh Watkins for our bonus point try, before Scunthorpe scored a soft consolation through Bird with a few minutes to go.

But fear not, Josh Watkins again scored under the posts at the death to give Lucs a fantastic result and all the points.

Great game, great atmosphere and as I write this I hope for great beer afterwards (He got it. Ed).
