Dan enters his seventh season within the 1st XV squad this year and his second as captain, on the back of leading the side to survival last year, having been named captain at the tender age of 23. He has been at Luctonians continuously since the age of eight, but for a few spells travelling abroad where he has played for clubs in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. Whilst Dan is renowned for his personality and ability with drink-in-hand after a game, over the past few seasons he has grown to become the natural choice as leader of our young squad on the pitch. Always at the centre of club activities, be it organising an off the cuff Sunday Session, or volunteering to coach the U16s as he is this season, he is ‘Black & White’ to the core.
Passionate, volatile and often emotionally charged when giving team talks prior to and during the game, nobody will ever be able to question Dan’s commitment to Lucs and his love of this club. He is still after all the only bloke I know to have got the Luctonians crest tattooed on his shoulder blade. This season he is likely to play a dual role within the squad, both as a second row and a back-row forward. An excellent lineout option, Dan is not your stereotypical forward, but a lack of appetite for defensive work is more than made up for by his ability to use quick feet to break the line and create opportunities for others. Last season his ability to create something from nothing, exactly when the side needed it, was an important factor in securing our safety.
