Jordan is another born and bred Luctonian, having come through our Mini and Junior section in the same extraordinary year group that has given us seven players to have played National League rugby for the club, including the likes of Matt Hackley, Dan Smith and Louis Silver. Since making his debut for the 1st XV at the start of the 2011/12 season, Jordy has gone on to become a regular face in our match-day squads over the past four seasons, and has amassed over 80 appearances in this league. The role of the modern day hooker is such that invariably you do not play 80 minutes very often these days, and so must be patient in sharing the responsibilities with another. What is required is that you make an impact with the time you have on the field, be it as a starter or sub, and Jordy has fitted into this mould perfectly. With his explosive ball carrying ability and nuggety strength in defence, opposition players will often underestimate him because of size, and invariably find out the hard way that the short man is very tough to put down.
Last season was in some ways Jordan’s breakthrough season as a regular starter, and he certainly chimed in with some important tries, scoring in the home wins over Stourbridge, Caldy and Preston as well as probably the most memorable of the haul, away at Birmingham Solihull in that must win game, as he snuck through the centre of a ruck in his trademark fashion to help build the first half lead. So far this season he and Dale Garner have shared the starting role on a roughly 50/50 split basis in what is starting to become a potent combination.
Away from rugby Jordy works alongside his old man Jerry as a chimney technician (posh way of saying chimney sweep!!) for their family business. Based on his appetite for training let us hope he works harder when doing his job, otherwise poor old Jerry must have to pick up some serious slack! He recently became a father, and I am sure we all wish him and his other half Jodie the very best for the future in their life as a young family.
