Luctonians began this seasons Midlands 1 campaign when they entertained visitors Scunthorpe
Under new coach Viv Woolley the home side had several players making their 1st. XV debuts. Lucs opened brightly and within 5 minutes had taken the lead when centre Blake Korteweg kicked a 50metre penalty. The same player soon added to the total when he slotted over a second penalty from a slightly shorter distance
The first try came after 15 minutes when a threequarter movement ended in hooker Nick Byron racing 28 metres to score. Straight from the restart Lucs were penalised in front of the posts but Tim Robinson pushed his 35 metre kick wide of the uprights. The home pack were now beginning to dominate allowing their threequarters to show their paces. On 20 minutes scrum half Ollie Williams found space to dart over for an unconverted try. 5 minutes later winger Pat Garrod went over for a try after good work by both back and forwards. Korteweg than added his third penalty before winger Pete Smith completed the first half scoring with a try which was converted by Korteweg to give Lucs a half time 31 points to 0 lead.
The visitors showed a little more sparkle at the beginning of the second half without causing any problems to a solid Lucs defence. Ollie Williams claimed his second try following a touchline run.
Play was now beginning to be somewhat scrappy with yellow cards being shown by referee Lee Thomas. The home side continued to dominate and in the last 15 minutes added three more tries through No 8 Paul Hulland, Full back Charlie Meredith and replacement Ollie King, with flyhalf Richard Henwood getting one conversion to leave the final score 53 points to 0.
