Senior Rugby
Luctonians are the Premier Club in Herefordshire and run 4 Saturday rugby teams throughout the season. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and an U19 Colts XV. With 6 floodlit pitches and a recently completed £500,000 club house redevelopment
History will relate that Luctonians struggled to embrace the concept of league rugby when introduced in the mid 80's. It took relegation in 1991 / 92 to galvanise us into action. The late Peter Children produced a development plan and Simon Hussey was given the Captaincy. His straight talking "NoTrain ,No Play" approach reaped benfits and the club set a Courage League record of 44 games without loss over the next 3 seasons and consecutive promotions.
A further promotion in 2000 took the club into Midlands 1 (Level 5) and the top of the Community game.
1stXV After leading Midlands 1 into Xmas 08 but ending up third in April, plans have been made and long term goals set to develop the strength in depth at Luctonians over the next few seasons. A new coaching structure has been identified that will see the club coaches supported by specialist o0nes from outside. Tony Yapp has already been involved with the kicking clinic and Andy Hazel England & Gloucester openside will be maikng the trip to Herefordshire in Pre Season. Phil Larder England Defence coach during the 03 World Cup is also here on Sat August 8th to put some real focus into what isalready one of the best defences in the league. Viv Wooley moves into a Coach Coordinator role and makes way for Richard Henwood and Stu Bemand as 1stXV coaches. Dave James will continue to Manage the team.
2nd XV won the North Midlands Reserve League for the 2nd time in a row. Under the guidance of Jim Archer and Wayne "Pinhead" Knox they will be endeavouring to repeat this success in a league that grows from strength to strength.
Knights XV This will be a new Performance team for the coming season and will be based around the last years Colts XV. They will play in the Worcester and Hereford Merit Table Division 2. This team will be coached by Mark Matthews who spent his playing days with Bath in the 2nd row with Martin Haag! Tim "Papa" Dines will be in charge as the Manager.
Colts. This year the U17 and U18 teams combine to make up a Colts Squad. History will show that many u17 squads suffer with low numbers so we have made the decision not to enter the u17 league. Although a young squad we have entered them inot the newly established North Midlands Colts league and look forward to a challenging structured season. They will be coached by Simon Green-Price and managed by Martin Lovell who welcome any Colts age players looking to develop their skills within a dynamic structure.
Foxhounds. Our Social team will have a brand new look to it this year. Dickie Davies and "The Hen" Williams take over player recruitmnet ans Simon Whiteman is i/c Fixtures. They will only play friendlies and specialise in a style of rugby that suits the "Fun Guy" who is not that interested in training.
