Under 9s Season Review 2019/20
Well it’s been a wet, wet, wet season for the whole club this year. Instead of matches and training being called off for frost it was for waterlogged pitches. As you can see below, opportunities for fitness on these cancellations took many a form.
We did however manage to squeeze in matches versus Hereford, Stourbridge, Bromyard, Bridgnorth and Ledbury. We welcomed some great new players to the team and they settled into the Lucs family brilliantly.
The team took to the new skill of tackling fantastically and they learnt to get stuck in and not hold back; a skill that is challenging for even the toughest 8 year olds. “I couldn’t wait to start tackling and it didn’t disappoint, because I love the rough and tumble,” commented Hugo.
Another skill developed was the team’s handling skills which were developed through various activities, games and ball sizes. Defensive and attacking lines and communication between the players improved as they have grown and matured.
The new team of four coaches: David Austin, Anthony Giampalma, Rich Norman and Matt Jackson used the extra training sessions to embrace tackling without losing sight of the core skills needed for rugby, by coming up with a variety of exciting activities and games.
The team bond has strengthened over the years, and friendships are flourished between children and adults but sadly, due to the pandemic, the tour to Devon and the highlight of the Lucs Minis season, the AngloWelsh Festival on April 19th were both called off.
Special thanks need to go to Darren DeMattia for continuing with the never ending job of managing, we are all very grateful.
