The original tournament was known as the Soggy 7's and took place in the Millenium Year . It was a chance for the Fat Boys to get lost in space and a focus for the young Luctonians who had flown the coop to University, The Army or HM Prison to come back together.
In the foundation years competition for the Pyrex Bowl was fierce with the Porn Stars posing the stiffest of adversaries and the Herefordshire High School Old Boys their fat lady.
Wye Valley Brewery approached the Organising Committee in 2006 and offered sponsorship or beer. Norm generously accepted both, and Hartpury, Worcester Cougars, Suzies Badgers and The Otters were encouraged to enter and take up the challenge against teams such as the Bucknell Barbarians, The Nomads and the Cider Specialists.
A catalogue of minor broken or dislocated bones and runaway victories for the "Professional" teams forced the O.C. to adapt the format last year and run two seperate competitions. Wye Valley Brewery upped the prize money, Stourbridge beat Per Temps in the Final and the Army left for Afghanistan without paying their entry.
In May 2008 we celebrate the clubs 60th Anniversary with a Big Weekend of Fun a Frolics. We are adjusting to life in our fantastically refurbished club house and I am proud to announce that Wye Valley Brewery are keen to support the Sevens again.
The Social Sevens will continue to run on Easter Saturday March 22nd but we have re scheduled the Main competition on Sunday May 4th 2008
If you would like to enter a team in either competition please contact me at the Clubofficeon 01568 70 90 80 or by email on cluboffice@luctonians.co.uk.
