Yr 7 & 8 Festival Rules

The year 7&8 Festivals are the first taste of competitive rugby for many of the players. Teams consist of 12 players a side and are drawn from schools in the area. Last year saw a record 16 teams competeing. All games are played at Luctonians and both festivals "kick off" at 4:15 pm.

Competition Guidelines:

Pitch size: 60 m X 43 m + 5 m ingoal ( half pitch )

Ball size:   4

Number of players:12; 6 in scrum ,6 in back line .

Duration: 10 minutes one way or determined by number of teams competing.

Starts and Restarts: Scrum at centre .

Three in front row. Two in second row who MUST bind on each other with inside arms and round the HIPS of the props.

One player in the number 8 position who must bind round the hips of the second rows and cannot pick the ball up at the base of the scrum.

Scrumhalf not putting ball in may stand alongside opponent BUT not move beyond the middle line of the scrum until the ball has emerged .

If the scrum is pushed more than 1.5 metres a Free Pass is awarded

If a scrum is INTENTIONALLY wheeled more than 45 ° a Free Pass is awarded .

If the scrum is UNINTENTIONALLY wheeled more than 45° the scrum is reset with the same team to put in the ball .

Lineout :Consists of 5 players, a player to throw the ball in an immediate opponent and a player from each side to receive the ball form a line out .

All may play an active roll once ball has been touched by one of the players contesting the line out .

The ball MUST be thrown between 2 and 10 metres . If the ball is thrown over 10 m the oppositions are awarded a throw in .

Peeling off close to the lineout is allowed .

All players not involved in the lineout must be 7 metres away .

Kicking:No kicking . Free pass to non- offending team .

22 Drop Out:Free pass to defending team .

Hand off:No Hand-Offs

Substitutions:Rolling substitutions with referees permission
